Migrants with any criminal record will be denied Russian citizenship

15 May 13:30
Russia is tightening the rules for obtaining citizenship for foreigners. State Duma deputies adopted in the first reading bills that relate to migrants with outstanding criminal records.
As the Saratov 24 TV channel writes with reference to State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin, foreigners who have a criminal record for any crime – committed both in Russia and abroad – will not be able to obtain citizenship, a temporary residence permit or a residence permit. If such documents have already been issued, they are proposed to be cancelled.
The list of administrative violations for which migrants will be expelled from the country was also doubled – from 22 to 43 articles of the Administrative Code. The fines for some of them are planned to increase.
Volodin emphasized that all these measures should improve public safety and strengthen control over migration. The consideration of the bills is planned to be completed in the spring session.
