SUEK-Krasnoyarsk introduces digital technologies to improve the reliability of mining equipment

March 31 11:58

As part of the strategy for the development of the fuel and energy complex, the modernization of mining equipment continues at the branch of SUEK-Krasnoyarsk JSC Borodinsky Mine named after M. I. Shchadov.

The changes are based on the digitalization of operation and diagnostic processes, allowing the enterprise to reach a new level of reliability and production efficiency.

One of the significant projects in 2026 was the implementation of a vibration monitoring system on the walking excavator ESH 10/70 No. 17, which is engaged in re-excavating waste rock. Continuous data collection and analysis allows equipment diagnostics to become highly accurate digital tools.

“The system controls the temperature and vibration of bearing units of large electrical machines and high-speed gearbox shafts,” commented Mikhail Zavyalov, chief engineer of the Borodino open-pit mine. “The implementation of these solutions is a priority of investment policy aimed at increasing safety, reliability and production efficiency.”

A significant amount of investment is aimed at modernizing the electrical part of quarry equipment. Excavators are replacing outdated magnetic control systems with microprocessor ones. Instead of generator groups, transistor converters are installed, and ladle heating transformers are replaced with thyristor converters. This improves equipment energy efficiency, reduces maintenance costs and speeds up the response of electrical systems.

It is important that the changes concern not only the “stuffing” of the machines, but also the comfort of employees. Modern vibration-proof chairs are installed in the driver's cabs, which, together with new electrical equipment that reduces vibration and noise levels, significantly improves working conditions in the workplace.

On one of the most powerful excavators of the Borodino open-pit mine, ERP-2500 No. 4, a large-scale upgrade has already been completed. Currently, the equipment is in pilot industrial operation. The miners plan to complete all commissioning work by the beginning of July.

The implementation of the investment program at the coal mining enterprises of JSC SUEK-Krasnoyarsk is carried out on an ongoing basis. Coal miners plan to further update equipment and introduce digital solutions aimed at increasing the efficiency of production processes. This year, modernization will take place on excavators ESH-20/90 No. 19 of the Nazarovsky open-pit mine and EKG-8us No. 30 of the Berezovsky open-pit mine.

For the Krasnoyarsk Territory, updating the capacity of coal mines is a contribution to strengthening the energy security of the region. Modernization of the mining equipment fleet makes it possible to guarantee the stability of coal supplies, ensuring the uninterrupted operation of housing and communal services facilities, industrial enterprises and comfort in the homes of millions of residents.
