Bulgaria introduces the one-day vignette: everything Romanian drivers need to know before hitting the road

Starting February 3, 2026, Bulgaria will make available to drivers a new vignette valid for one day for vehicles up to 3.5 tons, which will allow access to the entire national road network for 24 hours, the Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) announced. The cost of one-day vignettes will be 4.09 euros (8 leva).

In 2026, all vignettes will be issued in both euros and leva. The conversion between the two currencies will be done automatically at the fixed official exchange rate without any additional action on the part of the drivers.

Cash payment will be possible in both currencies and electronic payments will be processed in Euros.

According to Novinite, the other types of vignettes will maintain their current prices: annual – 49.60 euros (97 leva), quarterly – 27.61 euro (54 leva), monthly – 15.34 euro (30 leva), weekly – 7.67 euro (15 leva) and weekend – 5.11 euro (10 leva).

Drivers can check their vignette status on the National Road Tax Administration website by entering the vehicle's registration number and country of origin.

The status can be “active”, “expired” or “unused” if the start date is delayed by up to 30 days.

The Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) has warned that between 22 and 31 December 2025 there will be temporary disruptions to online bank transfer payments due to preparations for the changeover to the euro.

During this period, vignettes can be purchased online by card, at counters or at self-service terminals.

All route cards purchased in 2025 will remain valid until 31 December 2025.

On New Year's Eve between 9pm and 2am, all sales channels will be closed for scheduled maintenance.

The introduction of the one-day vignette is part of the revised tariff for using the national road network and aligns with the official adoption of the euro as Bulgaria's national currency.
