The illegitimate president of the aggressor country, Russia, Vladimir Putin, said at a press conference on May 9 that allegedly “no proposals for the exchange of prisoners have yet been received from Ukraine.” He is quoted by the Kremlin's official website.
He also claims that the Russian Federation allegedly, even before the armistice agreement, on May 5, offered an exchange and handed over a list of 500 Ukrainian prisoners of war.
“Initially, the reaction was that we need to look more closely, maybe not all 500, maybe 200. And then they completely went off the radar and directly said that they were not ready for this exchange,” Putin said.
Suspilny's source in the President's Office said that Putin's statement is untrue. Work on the exchange in the 1000 to 1000 format continues.
“Since the agreement was reached through the mediation of the United States, the actual implementation of the exchange depends on the ability of the American side to act as its guarantor. Active contacts on this issue are currently ongoing,” the broadcaster’s interlocutor said.
A source from RBC-Ukraine reported that Russia is trying to complicate the process of prisoner exchange, which should take place within the framework of a three-day truce with Ukraine. However, this would be a breakdown of agreements with the United States, he emphasized.
“There will clearly still be active negotiations on the exchange. And they are breaking the promise not so much to us as to the United States,” the source said.
