A criminal case has been opened in Lesosibirsk regarding air pollution in the southern industrial hub. The reason was an inspection by the prosecutor's office at the site of Orion LLC, which is engaged in logging.

The plant burned sawmill waste in two bunkers with 40-meter-high pipes. However, there was no gas cleaning equipment there, and the gas ducts were leaky. Because of this, the smoke from burning slabs and sawdust, instead of going up through the pipes, spread low above the ground.

Measurements carried out by specialists from the regional Ministry of Ecology showed multiple excesses of the maximum permissible concentrations of harmful substances. In air samples, the content of suspended particles was 16.6 times higher than normal, and the carcinogenic benzo(a)pyrene was more than 60 times higher. The examination confirmed that this production was the source of pollution.

Based on the materials of the prosecutor's inspection, the investigative authorities opened a criminal case against the general director of the company under the article on air pollution. After the inspection, the violations were eliminated and the technological processes were brought into compliance with the law. The investigation is ongoing.
