US Treasury Secretary on war with Iran. “We are strangling the regime with our blockade”

“It's a real economic lockdown,” Scott Bessent told Fox Business on Sunday. “I can say that we are strangling a regime that is no longer able to pay its soldiers,” he added.

The US Treasury Secretary noted that the blockade of Iranian ports and a series of sanctions imposed on Iran as part of Operation Economic Fury are working, preventing, among other things, inflow of funds into Iran from sources abroad.

Scott Bessent also offered an optimistic forecast for oil and fuel prices, saying rates would be “significantly lower” after the war. He also emphasized that, as a result of the blockade of Iran, the exports of American energy companies are recording record results, and are only limited by the capacity of the infrastructure.

However, so far, the predictions made by Scott Bessent and other representatives of the American administration that Iran will run out of space to store oil, as a result of which Iranian oil wells will explode or be destroyed, have not come true. President Donald Trump predicted this would happen at the beginning of this week.

According to US Central Command, the blockade of Iranian ports has so far resulted in the diversion of 49 ships.

On Sunday, Iran presented Pakistan, which plays the role of mediator, with a 14-point proposal for an agreement with the US. According to Iranian media, it includes, among others: withdrawal of US troops from the region, lifting of sanctions and blockade, release of frozen Iranian assets and ending hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon. The proposal will also include a new mechanism for controlling the Strait of Hormuz.
