The high -speed road network in Romania comprises almost 1,300 kilometers of express highways and roads, most of which are built in the last two decades. The optimistic estimates for the year 2025 aimed at the inauguration of about 300 kilometers.
In the first months of 2025 no new section of highway or express road was opened, of the over 300 kilometers whose completion was forecast for this year.
Starting with April, the first new sections were to be used: Lot 3 of the South A0 Highway (the Capital Belt Highway), with a length of 17 kilometers, Lot 2 Mizil -Pietroasele, 28 kilometers, part of the A7 Ploiești -Buzău highway and a 4.5 kilometer sector of the 4th North Lot.
For lot 3 of the Bucharest Belt Highway (A0 South), between Bragadiru and Joița, the Aktor builder had initially announced the completion of the works until the end of April 2025, the physical stage of the execution being over 92 percent earlier this year.
Tens of kilometers of new highway in June
However, the estimated date of the inauguration was postponed for June.
“On May 31, we will begin reception procedures at this lot, so that, in maximum two weeks after May 31, we can give these 17 kilometers into circulation. They are extremely important for those who come from Pitești to A1 – they will not enter Bucharest, but will be able to bypass the capital under highway, going to Constanța,” Sorin Grindeanu, the Minister of Transport, following a recent site visit, declared recently.
In June, the opening of a 15 -kilometer sector of the Sibiu – Pitesti highway is scheduled, representing the second part of section 5 (Curtea de Argeș -Pitesti). The first 16 kilometers of this section were used in December 2024.
“The entrepreneur is on the last hundred meters before the last 15 kilometers of highway related to this section, depending on the result of the pre-reception and reception procedures at the end of the works. Irinel Ionel Scriosteanu, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Transport, recently informed.
By the end of June, the movement and the Mizil -Pietrosele of the A7 motorway could be opened, according to the Minister of Transport.
“There is very little work on this lot (28.35 kilometers), but the opening of the traffic can not be done until the Bulgarian builder from the association of Romanian and Bulgarian builders does not remedy the non -compliant works. After the opening of lot 2, this summer will be traffic on the highway in Bucharest”, wrote Sorin Grindeanu, on his Facebook page.
In the fall, after the completion of the works on lot 3 (Pietroasele – Municipiul Buzău), but also on an important portion of the Focșani -Bacău section, will be continuously traveling on the highway in Bucharest to Adjud (A3 and A7), he completed.
Also in the fall, the inauguration of the 4.5 kilometers of the North A0 Highway (Capital Belt) is expected.
“Lot 4 North is the one that makes the junction with the Bucharest – Constanța Highway (A2), through the road node A0 X A2. The contractual term of completion is spring 2026, but the works will be ready in the autumn of this year”, Irinel Ionel Scriosteanu also informed.
