Theodor Stolojan supports Prime Minister Bolojan: “Romania needs him now”. Criticism of the “political cabal” in state institutions

Former Prime Minister Theodor Stolojan declared that Ilie Bolojan must remain one of the central figures of the National Liberal Party, despite the message recently released by Traian Băsescu, who had suggested that the Liberals should make way for another leadership option, such as Dan Motreanu.

Commenting on the statements of the former president, Stolojan recognized the merits of the liberal MEP, but emphasized that the current political context requires Bolojan to be kept in the foreground.
“All respect to Mr. Motreanu. Indeed, Mr. President Băsescu is right. He is an old liberal and enjoys respect in the National Liberal Party. But Romania needs Bolojan now, because it is a life and death fight with this political cabal infiltrated in the public administration and in the state companies”. he stated, on Friday evening, in an intervention at Digi24.
Stolojan argued his position by referring to the situation in the energy system, citing the issue of technical approvals for the connection of 90,000 megawatts, which he says reflects serious blockages tolerated by key institutions such as Transelectrica and ANRE.
The former liberal leader harshly criticized the political appointments in these structures and appreciated Bolojan's intervention for bringing these irregularities into public discussion.
“It was necessary for Prime Minister Bolojan to come and expose to the country the mess that happened with those technical approvals for the connection of 90,000 megawatts. Well, we pay thousands of euros to people involved politically in Transelectrica, in this National Agency for the Regulation of Electric Energy – ANRE. Why didn't they notice that a mess was happening here? (…) Serious problems that exist are not only there, they are in any public system that, as they say, turned on the light so you can see what's actually going on there,” Stolojan stated.
Referring to the political consultations in Cotroceni, Stolojan stated that the PNL must go with the clear mandate to support a pro-Western majority, warning that if the president were to appoint a prime minister from the PSD, the liberals would have to enter the opposition.
At the same time, he stated that the party expected firmer support from President Nicușor Dan for Ilie Bolojan and for the political project assumed by the PNL.
