Foreigners with a Russian passport will receive child benefits only after five years of living in the country

April 27 14:30

The Russian government has approved new rules for the payment of a single child benefit for foreigners who have received Russian citizenship. As sibnovosti.ru writes, now such families will need to live in the country for at least five years already in the status of a citizen of the Russian Federation.

However, there are exceptions. The requirement will not apply to those who received a passport by birth, are recognized as citizens of the Russian Federation (including residents of the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions), participate in the state program for the resettlement of compatriots, as well as participants in the Northern Military District, military veterans and members of their families.

If the Social Fund does not receive data on admission to citizenship, payments will be denied. The benefit amount will be 50% of the child's subsistence level in the region at the time of application.

The new rules will come into force on April 1, 2027.
