Days off from work in 2026. The government added another day

In 2026, there will be an additional day off so you can plan a long weekend. This is August 15, when the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Polish Army Day, which falls on Saturday, are celebrated. Therefore, the government decided to give government administration employees an additional day off on Friday, August 14.
For most employees, the decision to grant a day off for a Saturday holiday is made by the employer. The Prime Minister makes the decision in the case of civil service employees. This means that the holiday on Friday, August 14 applies only to government administration. It is worth emphasizing, however, that in many workplaces the day off is the same as that for government employees.

The principle of granting an additional day off results directly from the Labor Code. Pursuant to Art. 130 § 2, if a holiday falls on a day other than Sunday, the working time in a given settlement period is reduced.
In turn, in the case of holidays falling on a Sunday, you are no longer entitled to an additional day off.
