Cristian Tudor Popescu, after Viktor Orban's failure: “Trump's first decisive defeat, the ayatollah of liars”

Journalist Cristian Tudor Popescu welcomed the defeat suffered by the party of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in front of the formation led by his opponent, Peter Magyar.

CTP compared the leader from Budapest to Nicolae Ceaușescu, claiming that he “studded the political and business environment with knowledge and henchmen”, building “a network of corruption at the state level”.

According to the journalist, Viktor Orban tried to mask Hungary's economic problems with anti-Western rhetoric, invoking an “external enemy” represented by Ukraine and the European Union.

CTP also drew a parallel between the construction of a stadium in the hometown of the Hungarian leader and the one built during the communist regime in Romania in the commune where Ceaușescu was born.

“One thing he did not do: he did not strangle the free elections; in compensation, he will not be shot”, appreciated the journalist, in a message called “Orbán escapes Târgoviște”, referring to the end that the Ceaușescus had.

CTP also pointed out that Orban's defeat on Sunday was “the first defeat of Trump, the ayatollah of liars, who has bombastically and unreservedly backed him”, predicting that the next one will be in the situation with Iran, which the White House leader said had defeated him.

Hungary's opposition leader Peter Magyar won a landslide victory over incumbent Prime Minister Viktor Orban in parliamentary elections that saw a record turnout on Sunday.

The opposition Tisza party is expected to win 138 seats in the 199-member Parliament, a two-thirds majority, according to partial results after 98.94% of the votes were counted.

Prime Minister Viktor Orban's Fidesz party would get 55 seats.
