Before the meeting with Trump, Putin decided to go to the country targeted by the new commercial war triggered by the American leader

Russian President Vladimir Putin is about to pay a visit to India, announced on Thursday, during a visit to Moscow, the Indian counselor for national security, Ajit Doval, in a moment of increasing commercial pressures from the United States, writes Reuters and EFE agencies.

The Indian official confirmed that Putin's visit was agreed, but the data is not yet established. The Russian press states that the visit could take place at the end of August.

“We are very excited and delighted to find out about the visit of his excellence, the President of Russia, President Putin, in India. I think the data is almost finalized,” said the Indian adviser for national security, according to Agerpres.

The Washington administration is currently seeking to force India to diminish its relationships with Moscow, especially Russian oil acquisitions.

The announcement of Putin's displacement to the Asian country comes one day after US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order by which, to 25% customs duties he has already imposed, he added another 25% for a number of US products imported from India, motivating that this is a “Resc. Essential income for the financing of the War in Ukraine.

Moscow denounces “a gross attempt” from Trump

In Moscow, the Russian government qualified Trump's latest statements as a “gross attempt to put pressure on a strategic partner”.

According to the Kremlin, the measures announced by the US aim to “punish India for defending their energy autonomy” and have “no real connection with Ukraine”.

Also, Russia has defended its strategic partnership with India. “Russia and India are united by strong friendship links that have resisted the test of time. For our country it is a priority to strengthen the strategic, privileged and special partnership with India,” said the Secretary of the Security Council of Russia, Sergei Şoigu during the meeting with National Security Council.

He stressed that Russia is determined to continue “active cooperation with the objective of creating a new world order, more fair and stable, and to guarantee the supremacy of international law and the common struggle against contemporary challenges and threats.”

The Russian official also mentioned that the foundation of the dialogue based on confidence between the two countries is the periodic contacts between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

India accuses the “hypocrisy” of the West

Previously, India accused of “hypocrisy” Western states that have expressed criticism of its substantial commercial relations with Russia, reminding them of their own commercial relations with Russia, the country where the West continues to buy products such as natural gas or uranium.

According to China, India is the largest Russian oil buyer. Last year, about 36% of India's oil imports came from Russia, a substantial increase in about 2% in the years before the Ukraine.

India explains this increase in that “traditional (oil) deliveries have been diverted to Europe after the conflict” in Ukraine, as European countries have sought alternatives to Russian oil, in their desire to sanction Russia.

On the other hand, Western sanctions against Russia, especially the price ceiling imposed on Russian oil under the market price, made this product more attractive for Indian companies, which have managed to save billions of dollars.

Following the new customs taxes imposed by the US, the Indian government said it would take “all the necessary measures to protect the national interest”, recalling that India and the United States have carried out negotiations for a commercial agreement “equitable and mutually advantageous”.

But the commercial negotiations between the US and India do not seem to have led to Trump's liking. One of the dissatisfaction of the American part seems to be the refusal of India to open their market for agricultural products -including by authorizing imports of genetically modified products -, given that farmers form a strong electorate in this country.

“The interests of farmers are our main priority. India will never compromise the interests of farmers, farmers and fishermen. And I know I will have to pay a huge price for it but I am prepared,” said Prime Minister Modi during a speech on Thursday at a conference in New Delhi.

A meeting between US and Russia's presidents will take place on August 11-17, being approved following the meeting on Wednesday with Vladimir Putin with Steven Witkoff, Trump's special envoy, Kommersant reported on Thursday. The host country was not established, but Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that the United Arab Emirates are a suitable location, according to Reuters.

Putin confirmed, later, during the day, a mutual interest for a meeting with Donald Trump, instead he estimated that the conditions are not yet met directly with the Ukrainian president Volodimir Zelenski, although he is insistent with the Kremlin leader to agree on the war.
