Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban suggested the transformation of the structure of the European Union into a concentric circles and estimated that, in the absence of changes, the EU multiannual budget for the period 2028-2034 could be the last of its kind, according to the extracts presented by the Hungarian MTI agency from a speech held on Sunday at an event.
A system of concentric circles could mean the survival of the concept of European integration and the European Union for the next ten years, otherwise the latter risks breaking down, Orban believes.
He wanted to specify that such a structure is not the same as a “more speeds.” In the last circle of such a Europe of concentric circles, he explained, the countries that want to cooperate only in two precise fields, respectively military security and energy security, would also enter this circle that could not enter the EU, such as the UK, Turkey and even Ukraine.
In the second circle of this structure imagined by the Hungarian Prime Minister, the countries that want to limit European integration in the European common market would be found, and in the first circle countries willing to harmonize their principles and form a political union.
In the absence of changes, the EU's multiannual budget for the period 2028-2034 “could be the last” of its kind and could be followed by a dismantling of the euro area “in a chaotic and destructive process,” Orban continued, according to which the EU has already entered a state of disintegration and fragmentation.
“If it continues that way, and there is a good chance of doing so, the EU will enter history as a disappointing result of a great experiment,” concluded the Hungarian Conservative Prime Minister.
