The dental clinic reiterated that it is in contact and cooperating with the authorities to clarify all the circumstances that led to the death of the 2-year-old girl.

“We once again express our deepest sympathy to the bereaved family. We are currently in full cooperation with the relevant authorities to clarify all the circumstances that led to this tragic event. We want to assure the public that patient safety was and remains our primary responsibility,” Crystal Dental Clinic representatives said.

The company pointed out that over 11 years, more than 1,700 procedures involving sedation have been performed by the same anesthesiologist under whose care the 2-year-old child was cared for without incident.

“Until the completion of the official investigation, we refrain from any speculation or conclusions. We will provide additional information as soon as it can be publicly communicated, in accordance with the legal provisions and the principles of transparency”, the company also sent.

The representatives of the clinic explained why sedation or general anesthesia is used in the case of children.

“Sedation/general anesthesia can be used in situations where the complex pathology exceeds the level of understanding of the small patient. Being uncooperative, he could move, and the medical instruments used could injure the child's lip/tongue/cheek. In some situations, for the optimal treatment of very young, anxious or special needs children, sedation is recommended precisely to allow the medical act to be performed safely, without physical or emotional trauma for the child. The procedure is performed exclusively by specialist anesthesiologists and is used worldwide in cases where the cooperation of the child is impossible. We are deeply affected by this event and remain committed to the cooperation with the authorities in order to clarify every aspect of the situation. Our thoughts go out to the bereaved family, and our entire team is with them in these moments of pain.

The representatives of the dental clinic previously mentioned that the girl went through a similar procedure, with deep sedation, on January 27, 2025, carried out in the same clinic by the same medical team, anesthetist and dentist, which ended “without complications and with a full recovery”.

Prosecutors of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Bucharest Court announced on Friday that they have taken over the file in which the death of the two-year-old girl, who went into cardio-respiratory arrest and could not be resuscitated, after being sedated in the capital's dental clinic, is being investigated.

The Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, stated that the State Sanitary Inspection and the Control Body will carry out checks at the dental clinic.

The girl's parents accused that the call to 112 was made very late, after the girl's condition had become very serious.

“The child went into cardio-respiratory arrest, and we were notified only after an hour or so,” said the girl's father.
