According to the definition of the Central Statistical Office, material deprivation means the inability to meet basic needs due to financial constraints, while social deprivation refers to exclusion from social and cultural life.

Both phenomena are closely related to multidimensional poverty, which can lead to social marginalization. In 2025, only 2 percent Poles were unable to meet their basic material and social needs, considered necessary for a decent life.
Significant improvement in meeting basic needs
The Central Statistical Office noted that the percentage of people unable to meet at least 7 of 13 key needs decreased by 5.8 percentage points over a decade. These needs included, among others: the ability to eat meat or its vegetarian equivalent every other day, heating the apartment as needed, covering unexpected expenses, timely payment of housing fees or access to the Internet.
The list also includes aspects such as having two pairs of properly fitting shoes, replacing worn-out clothes, access to a car for private purposes or the possibility of going on a week's holiday.

The biggest changes were recorded in the areas that were most problematic in 2015. In 2025, only 24.4 percent Poles could not afford a week-long holiday trip, which is a significant improvement compared to 44 percent. a decade earlier. Similarly, the percentage of people unable to cover an unexpected expense decreased from 42.3%. in 2015 to 22 percent in 2025
Better financial stability of Polish farms
“This means that households in the analyzed period gained greater financial stability, allowing them to meet not only the most pressing consumption needs,” the Central Statistical Office emphasized in its announcement.
The data indicate that the improvement in the financial situation of Poles was particularly visible in areas related to the basic needs of everyday life.

These results show that over the last 10 years, Poland has made significant progress in reducing poverty and improving the quality of life of its citizens.
