“Indirect talks between the United States and Iran are taking place using messages transmitted by Pakistan. In this context, the United States has presented 15 points that Iran is currently analyzing,” wrote the head of Pakistan's diplomacy. He added that the initiative of the authorities in Islamabad was supported by “fraternal countries such as Türkiye and Egypt.”

“Pakistan remains fully committed to peace and continues to strive for stability in the region and beyond,” he added.

Pakistan is mediating in talks between Iran and the US. “Regular contacts”

AFP, which quotes the entry of the Pakistani foreign minister, emphasized that this is the first official confirmation from the authorities in Islamabad of their mediation in contacts between Iran and the US. The agency reported that both Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the foreign minister “maintain regular contacts with high-ranking representatives of the Iranian government, as well as with their allies in the Persian Gulf.” Traditionally, as AFP reminded, Pakistan cooperates closely with the US.

The NYT wrote on Tuesday that the US provided Iran with a 15-point plan to end the war. The newspaper quoted two officials privy to the matter, according to whom the proposal includes, among others: Iran's ballistic missile program and nuclear program, and the issue of transportation through the Strait of Hormuz.

“NYT” noted that its sources do not know whether Israel has accepted the American plan. According to the daily, the main intermediary between Washington and Tehran is to be Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, Marshal Syed Asim Munir, who maintains close contacts with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The newspaper also recalled that last year Munir talked twice with Donald Trump, who called him his “favorite field marshal”.
