Russians were warned what words should not be said to scammers on the phone

Russians should not say the words “yes”, “I confirm” and “I agree” in a conversation with possible scammers. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the head of the city online project “Call back yourself” of the capital’s information technology department, Valentina Shilina.

According to the specialist, attackers can cut such words out of context and use them to verbally confirm transactions on behalf of a person. For example, when trying to conduct a banking transaction. Shilina noted that scammers can use synthesized speech and glue individual words into a whole phrase. As a result, a simple “yes” can turn into confirmation of a money transfer.

The expert advises not to enter into a conversation with a suspicious interlocutor and not to answer questions that require confirmation.

The best rule in such a situation is to say: “I’ll call you back myself,” and then immediately hang up. Then you need to independently dial the official number of the bank, department or organization on whose behalf they allegedly called.
