The PSD amendment regarding the support of military personnel with pensions below 3,000 lei, introduced in the MApN budget. Radu Miruță: “It's offensive”
The budget of the Ministry of Defense was approved on Tuesday, March 17, in the Parliamentary Budget-Finance Committees with 40 votes “for” and nine abstentions. The parliamentarians introduced an amendment that provides for a “one-off” aid for military personnel with pensions below 3,000 lei, with which Minister Radu Miruță said he does not agree.

“'One-off' – even these words are offensive – one that there is help, the Romanian Army helps, it is not necessarily in a situation to be helped and 'one-off' means once and for all. But is it enough to help the military, who are considered by some to be helped once and for all? This country needs to have a budget that has something to do with reality until it's healthy enough to naturally give these people in the military the benefits they deserve.” explained the Minister of Defense.
He stated that at the moment it is about “an amount allocated on paper“, because he was not informed of the funding source of the initiative. According to Miruţă, the impact that this amendment would bring would be 12 million lei, writes Agerpres.
In the context of the PSD vote for this amendment, Radu Miruţă emphasized that a coalition is “a contract between the parties“.
“In article 19, paragraph 2 of that coalition contract, it is mentioned that no party can propose measures that involve an increase in expenses, without an agreement in the coalition. What we see today is without an agreement in the coalition. The priority is now the passage of the budget. Each party will make an analysis of how it will position itself, considering the fact that the coalition agreement is no longer respected”the minister said.
The budget proposed by the Government for the Ministry of Defense means commitment credits of 112.59 billion lei, an increase of 1.19% compared to last year, and budget credits of 49.426 billion lei, an increase of 16.62% compared to last year.
Regarding current expenses, commitment credits are 29.67 billion lei, and budget credits – 27.14 billion lei
In the personnel expenses chapter, commitment credits of 14.18 billion lei are proposed, increasing by 3.44% compared to 2025, and budget credits – 13.88 billion lei, increasing by 3.22% compared to last year.
