PKP wants fast trains. Additional order possible
The ordering party has provided an option for the delivery of additional 35 trains, but exercising this right is not obligatory. According to the announcement, the decision to extend the order will depend on the future rolling stock needs of PKP Intercity. Moreover, as the company argues, this option can be implemented partially and gradually.
The first two trains are to be delivered within 60 months of signing the contract, and the entire basic order (20 trains) is to be completed within a maximum of 84 months. If the option is exercised, delivery of all 55 trains could take up to 110 months.

PKP and fast trains. Port Poland in the background
PKP Intercity has set the deadline for submitting applications to participate in the procedure for April 29, 2026. The requirements for potential contractors include the condition that they have produced and delivered at least five dual-system EMUs with a speed of at least 250 km per hour over the last 7 years.
Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Piotr Malepszak reminded in December 2025 that the new trains will serve the “Y” route – a key element of the HSR system. This route will connect Warsaw with Łódź, Wrocław and Poznań, running, among others, through the planned Port Polska (formerly Central Communication Port).
PKP offers travel in four categories of trains, from the economical TLK and IC, to the fast EIC and EIP operated by Pendolino trains.
