“We have officially started talks on France's involvement in the competitive process of selecting a partner for the construction of the second nuclear power plant in Poland,” the ministry said.

He added that Deputy Minister of Energy Wojciech Wrochna talked in Paris with representatives of the French government about Polish-French cooperation in the field of energy, including ways to ensure security and energy independence through low-emission technologies.

“Polish-French cooperation in shaping European Union regulations and policies supporting the achievement of common goals in the field of energy was confirmed. The role of the exchange of experience between Poland and France for building nuclear competences at the regulatory and economic level was emphasized, including through cooperation of Polish and French enterprises in supply chains for new energy projects,” it added.

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Interior published a statement after the visit of the Polish delegation to Washington. He pointed out that the topics discussed included: issues regarding competitive dialogue in the context of selecting a strategic partner for the second power plant under the Polish Nuclear Energy Program.

The two preferred locations for the second nuclear power plant in Poland, according to the assumptions for the PPEJ update, are Bełchatów and Konin, and the two reserve locations are Połaniec and Kozienice.

According to the Ministry of Industry in March, the selection of a strategic partner for the construction of the second NPP is possible at the turn of 2026/2027.

The start-up of the first unit II of the NPP is planned for 2040, and the start-up of the entire power plant in 2043. (PAP Biznes)
