Nicușor Dan meets with Mark Rutte at NATO headquarters on Thursday

President Nicușor Dan will meet on Thursday with the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, at the headquarters of the North Atlantic Alliance in Brussels, according to a press release from the Presidential Administration.

The meeting will take place at 10:00 (Romanian time) and will be followed by a joint press conference.

Mark Rutte visited Romania in November of last year and talked with Nicușor Dan at Palatul Cotroceni.

The discussion agenda includes security developments in the international environment and the situation on the Eastern Flank, with an emphasis on the Black Sea region. In this context, measures to strengthen deterrence and collective defense, as well as to increase Romania's security through NATO, will be addressed.

“The President of Romania will highlight the importance of the transatlantic relationship, reconfirming our country's role as an ally strongly involved in regional stability and security,” the Presidential Administration said.

According to the cited source, Nicușor Dan will emphasize that Romania respects the commitments made at the NATO Summit in The Hague regarding the increase in defense spending.

Also, the head of state will highlight the multidimensional assistance given to Ukraine and will remind the need to strengthen NATO's support for partners, especially for the Republic of Moldova, in the context of Russia's hybrid actions.

Later, from 11:00, the president will participate in the meeting of the European Council in Brussels, according to Nicușor Dan's agenda.
