The Minister of Defense, Radu Miruță, stated that Romania was notified about the imminent arrival of American equipment and soldiers on the territory of the country. According to him, the deployment would take place in a very short time, being “a matter of hours or days” until the planes arrive at the Mihail Kogălniceanu air base.

“I am concerned about an additional presence of American troops on the national territory, it is an increase in security, an additional guarantee of security. Obviously, there are some costs, some analyses, but, from the discussions held, somewhere between 400 and 500 soldiers will also come, to strengthen the eastern flank, for the use of devices that increase Romania's defense capacity. When the equipment will arrive, it is a matter of hours, days. This equipment approved by the Parliament at the proposal of the President of Romania they come accompanied by military personnel who manage them”, stated Radu Miruta.
The United States recently asked Romania to approve the deployment of some planes and soldiers at the Mihail Kogălniceanu air base, in Constanța county, in the context of the tensions generated by the war with Iran. The request was approved on Wednesday by the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, gathered in joint plenary session, after it was first analyzed in a CSAT meeting.
President Nicușor Dan explained that it is about aerial refueling planes and defensive satellite communications equipment.
