Where to buy a diesel in Poland? The simplest answer is – in commission. However, we do not take the easy way and check what diesel models are still offered by Polish car showrooms. However, there are fewer and fewer of them. Of the thirty most popular brands in January 2026, only eleven offered “clean” diesels.
The popularity of new diesel engines in Poland is decreasing year by year. According to data from the Polish Automotive Industry Association, in 2025 the share of cars with diesel engines in the new car market was 7.1%. A total of 42.5 thousand were placed on Polish roads. new diesels – by 11.7 percent less than a year earlier, while the entire market increased by 8.3 percent during this time. Meanwhile, in 2020, every fifth new car leaving the showroom was diesel.
A further decline is only a matter of time, as January's data indicate. In the first month of 2026, only 2.4 thousand were registered in Poland. new diesels, and their market share was 6%. and was the lowest in the history of measurements.
Poles were more likely to register both plug-in hybrids (2.8 thousand units) and electric cars, which overtook diesels for the first time in July 2025, and the following months only widened the difference in favor of electric cars.
However, while we write every now and then about new electric cars storming the Polish market, it is difficult to find such news in the case of diesel cars. Among the ten most frequently registered passenger cars by Polish individual customers in January 2026, only two were offered with diesel engines. These are the Hyundai Tucson and the Volkswagen T-Roc, with the reservation, however, that the diesel engine will not be present in the new, second generation of the model, but only in the first version of the currently most popular model from Wolfsburg, which is leaving the stage.
Looking more broadly at the twenty most popular models among the “Kowalskis”, you could find four such cars. In addition to the previously mentioned versions, the Cupra Formentor and Volkswagen Tiguan had a diesel engine. Taking into account the registrations made on the REGON by companies, Skoda Octavia should also be included in this group.
Germany is the hope of diesels
Taking into account the thirty most popular passenger car manufacturers in January 2026, diesels can currently be found in the portfolio of eleven.
These are primarily brands belonging to the Volkswagen group. The Wolfsburg-based company installs diesel engines in seven models: Tiguan, Tayron, Touareg, Touran, as well as in the iconic Golfs, Passats and the most popular T-Roc.although in his case diesel is slowly becoming a thing of the past.
However, there is no diesel version of the once iconic Polo. In most cases, the basic engine is a two-liter 2.0 TDI unit with 150 HP.
Diesels can also be found in Skoda: Octavia, Superb, Kodiaq and Karoq and Cuprach: Leon and Formentor, as well as Audi: A5, A6, A8, Q3, Q5, Q7 and Q8.
Outside the Volkswagen universe single models in which diesel units are installed are: Ford, Hyundai, Opel, Peugeot, Citroen and Mazda. In total, they offer seven diesel engines, including such iconic models as Focus and Astra and the currently popular Tucson.
The widest range of cars with diesel engines can be found in BMW showrooms, where the mentioned drive is still available in 26 models.
Mercedes-Benz has moved away from classic diesel engines, and its offer includes the so-called soft hybrids using diesel engines.
This drive is practically absent in the models of Chinese brands that are becoming more and more popular on the Vistula River.
How much does diesel cost?
Currently, the cheapest diesel among the so-called popular brands is Ford Focus. A car with a 1.5 EcoBlue engine with 115 HP costs PLN 106,300. However, this price includes a vintage sale for the 2024 model year car.
Below 150 thousand PLN also available: Volkswagen Golf, Skoda Octavia, Skoda Karoq, Volkswagen Touran, Citroen C5 Aircross, Peugeot 308 and Opel Astra.
However, the price ranges are very wide, due to the fact that diesel engines are most often offered in premium segment cars. Cars with the BMW logo alone constitute almost half of the available diesel offer in Poland.
