The Russian leadership in Zaporizhia blames Ukrainian attacks on the nuclear power plant for the second day in a row

Russia-installed management at Ukraine's Zaporozhye nuclear power plant says Ukrainian forces have attacked an area of the facility for the second day in a row, according to Reuters.

In the Telegram message, management said that Sunday's bombing damaged a transport workshop but did not disrupt the plant's operations and there were no casualties.

According to the statement, the roof of the workshop and staff transport buses were damaged, and the windows of a nearby communications building were broken.

The Russian military captured the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, Europe's largest with six reactors, in the first weeks of the invasion launched in February 2022.

The two camps constantly accuse each other of military actions that compromise nuclear safety.

On Saturday, the plant's management claimed that a Ukrainian drone fell near the fuel units, but did not detonate, and the plant's operations continued as normal.

The Zaporizhia nuclear power plant has been hit by drones several times since the beginning of the conflict. The plant does not generate electricity, but must continue to operate to keep the nuclear fuel cool.

On Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of “prolonging the war” and announced that Ukrainian drones had hit the Moscow region and the Russian capital in response. The area was targeted by the most extensive attack in the last year.
