According to the ynet website, citing a source close to the situation, there is no danger to the public. The envelope contained vials of an unknown substance.
The authorities said that the envelope was sent for analysis to a specialized laboratory. A government spokeswoman declined to comment on the incident, referring questions to the Israeli police, who did not make initial statements, dpa reports.
It is not the first time that a suspicious package has appeared at the office of the Israeli prime minister. The most recent such incident took place in November last year, when an envelope was examined by security forces and declared harmless.
