The price of gasoline increased again on Wednesday by 10 banis per liter in Petrom stations, and the price of diesel increased by 15 banis per liter. It is the third day in a row that price changes are taking place and most of the distribution chains are affected.

For example, in OMV stations, premium diesel exceeded the threshold of 10 lei per liter, more precisely 10.1 lei/liter.

This month, as a result of the effects of the war in the East, standard gasoline rose by 74 bani per liter and diesel by 1.16 lei per liter.

Two days ago, Alexandru Nazare, the Minister of Finance, declared that the state will have to intervene through the control bodies in the issue of fuel price increases, especially the increases were made on old stocks.

“There are spectacular increases in fuel, we are worried about the situation, especially since they are stocks purchased in the past. All the agencies and institutions that are responsible for monitoring and control in a crisis context should act. In the next day a decision will be made, and we, the Ministry of Finance, are part of this decision. It is clear that the stocks available at the time of the start of the war were not influenced by this. I think that in the next few days a decision will be made regarding monitoring the price”Alexandru Nazare said on Tuesday morning.

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan announced that Romania has already taken measures to limit fuel exports, so that domestic production is primarily directed to the local market. He also stated that domestically produced crude oil should function as a “anchor” to keep prices under control.

The Prime Minister warned that if the price increases continue and the situation in the Middle East does not stabilize, the authorities could intervene, without detailing the measures.

Among the scenarios analyzed are the capping of gasoline and diesel prices, the reduction of excise duties for certain categories, such as transporters and farmers, but also the restart of some refining capacities, such as the Petrotel Lukoil refinery. Moreover, a support scheme for transporters has already been adopted.

The project provides for the extension of the period of granting state aid in the form of a grant until April 30, 2027, covering diesel purchased by operators until December 31, 2026.

For the period between April 1, 2026 and December 31, 2026, the value of the state aid is set at 85 money per liter, and the payment of the state aid will be made through the budget of the Ministry of Finance – General Actions, the Ministry of Finance states, on Thursday, in a statement.
