In the book by E. Kudisch “My Treasured Star” (0+) information is published that on February 15, 1911, the Jewish writer Gershl Isaakovich Polyanker was born, who in the 30s lived in Birobidzhan and worked in the newspaper “Birobidzhaner Stern” (12+).
The almanac “Birobidzhan” (0+) published the short story “Shmaya the Robber” (12+). Gershl Isaakovich was a participant in the Great Patriotic War.
February 15, 1937
The newspaper “Birobidzhan Star” (12+) in the section “Around the city and region” wrote that a tuberculosis department was opening at the Birobidzhan hospital. The department was headed by doctor Shablukova.
In the same section, the newspaper informed its readers that the deputy director of the experimental station for scientific affairs, Professor B. Brook, was appointed by the Higher Qualification Commission of the Agricultural Academy. Lenin was approved with the title of Candidate of Agricultural Economic Sciences.

The newspaper publishes that the Experimental Station is preparing for publication a number of works by its employees on agricultural technology.
It is also written that in order to introduce barley into the crops of collective farms in the Jewish Autonomous Region, the experimental station developed two varieties of frost-resistant barley through selection.
“Barley is cultivated in our region. In total, three hectares of barley are sown in the region on the Karl Liebknecht collective farm.”
The same newspaper writes about telephone installation in the region:
“In 1934, in the territory occupied by the Jewish Autonomous Region there were only four telephone sets. Now in the region there are 555 telephone sets, of which 200 are located in Birobidzhan. All village councils of the region are equipped with telephones. The Stalinsky district (now Oktyabrsky) is an area of continuous telephone installation. This year the construction of a new telephone exchange in Birobidzhan with 400 numbers begins.”

The reference and information publication: according to documents from the state archive of the Jewish Autonomous Region “Streets of the City of Birobidzhan” (0+) states that by decree of the Presidium of the Regional Executive Committee dated February 15, 1937 No. 11, Shkolnaya Street was renamed in honor of the great Russian poet – Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin.

The newspaper “Birobidzhan Star” in the section “Across our region” wrote about the construction of a meat processing plant in Birobidzhan:
“A five-hectare site for the construction of the plant is allocated behind the eastern semaphore. A refrigerator, meat and fat and sausage shops, utility rooms, a power plant and a workers’ camp will be built here. Ten million rubles have been allocated for the construction of the plant.”
The construction of greenhouses for growing early vegetables is being completed at the Waldgeim agricultural center. The collective farm board organized the purchase and borrowing of potatoes from members of the artel in order to replenish the missing seed material.
The newspaper informs its readers that the club in the village of Izvestkovy is considered one of the best in the region. The club has several amateur art clubs, a drama club, and regular lectures. The club has organized a piano school.
“For good cinema service to the population, the regional film department expressed gratitude to the projectionist Comrade Goryunov… The head of the club, Comrade Buzilevich, was awarded a certificate of honor and included in the regional book of honor.”
At the secondary school in the village of Bira, a circle of young Michurin residents and local historians was organized, led by a natural history teacher. The circle holds conversations about biological science, plans for transforming nature, and members of the circle independently test various seeds for germination. “The members of the circle are studying the nature of their region. During the holidays they visited Komsomolsk, and in the summer they are going on an excursion to Vladivostok.”

The reference and information publication “Streets of the City of Birobidzhan” (0+) states that by decision of the Birobidzhan City Executive Committee dated February 15, 1957, No. 38 street on Sopka, located between Dekabristov and Druzhby streets, was given the name Yuzhno-Sakhalinskaya. In the same resolution, the street on Sopka, parallel to Yuzhno-Sakhalinskaya and Kolkhoznaya streets and perpendicular to Druzhby and Dekabristov streets, was given the name Irkutskaya; The street located between Kuldurskaya and Dekabristov streets, perpendicular to the intersecting Moskovskaya, Magadan and Kolkhoznaya streets, is named after Turgenev.
