Polish companies play an important role in the reconstruction of Ukraine, implementing infrastructure, transport and energy projects, and Poland is preparing for the international conference in Gdańsk devoted to the reconstruction of Ukraine, the Minister of State Assets, Wojciech Balczun, told PAP.
– Poland has a natural right to be strongly involved in the reconstruction of Ukraine and to be a beneficiary of this activity. On the Ukrainian side, there is probably already an understanding that Poland, which is a logistics and aid hub for Ukraine fighting for its freedom, is a natural partner for the implementation of the largest or key projects related to the reconstruction of Ukraine in all areas, Balczun said.
He added that this concerns the participation of Polish companies in the reconstruction of road, railway and energy infrastructure, as well as in the fuel sector.
– Polish companies are already present in Ukraine, they are currently opening their offices there – he said.
He recalled that Prime Minister Donald Tusk and representatives of the Polish delegation had visited Kiev in recent days. Deputy Minister Eliza Zeidler took part on behalf of the Ministry of State Assets.
Balczun noted that in June last year, the largest economic mission of Polish companies to Ukraine took place, in which heads of enterprises and government representatives participated. According to the minister, the initiative resulted in specific projects in which Poland is a natural partner for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
– We have prepared for this very thoroughly, we have taken advantage of what has happened over the last many months, and even in the longer term – said the head of the Ministry of Assets.
The minister emphasized that maintaining Ukraine's defense capabilities against the aggressor remains a priority, and during the conference to be held in Gdańsk in June, measures and ways of supporting Ukraine in rebuilding its infrastructure and economy will be discussed.
– The key issue now is maintaining Ukraine's ability to defend its statehood. I believe that the standard of relations we currently have is positive, as evidenced by, among others, that Poland will organize the Ukraine Recovery Conference in June this year – he said.
He added that the chairman of the conference organizing committee is the Minister of Finance and Economy, Andrzej Domański, and he is his deputy.
Inaugurated in 2022, the Conference for the Reconstruction of Ukraine is the most important annual international forum devoted to the reconstruction of Ukraine. It brings together financial institutions, representatives of business, local governments and non-governmental organizations, as well as politicians from European countries and countries supporting Ukraine at the highest level.
Representatives of governments and international institutions, the business world, local governments and non-governmental organizations interested in the reconstruction of Ukraine will be invited to participate in the conference. Political leaders of European countries and other countries supporting Ukraine will also take part.
Poland will host this year's edition of the international Ukraine Recovery Conference, which will be held on June 25-26 in Gdańsk. The aim of the event will be to increase the involvement of the private sector in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.
