Context
Harlan began dating Samele when she was officially married to Ukrainian saber fencer Dmitry Boyko, but she had not lived with him for a year. Kharlan and Boyko got married in August 2014 and divorced in 2018.
On September 5, 2024, Harlan announced her engagement to Samele. She added that the marriage proposal came as a surprise to her.
