Romania still meets only one criterion for the adoption of the euro, that regarding the public debt, but even this will not be valid for a long time, in the context of very high budget deficits. Hungary is, in many ways, just as bad as Romania – although Hungarian and Romanian citizens are the most favorable for the adoption of the single currency. In contrast, the Czech Republic meets all the macro criteria and is the most developed in the region, but the population is much more skeptical about adopting the single currency.
