The president of the Romanian Football Federation (FRF), Răzvan Burleanu, announced on Thursday that the 5+6 rule, by which the clubs in the first league are obliged to use at least 5 Romanian players formed throughout a match, was modified by the Executive Committee of the FRF, so that from the next season of the superigations, the group will not be respected, Agerpres.

“The biggest mistake we would make now would be to stop the whole development process and not look at the next generations. The objectives we followed when we implemented the 5+6 rule were primarily the number of players trained nationally and eligible for the Romanian nationals and at the same time the Romanian-based basis. And to fit in this rule, in such a way that we can contribute to the repatriation of young Romanian players abroad. form at national level or at the club level eligible for the nations of Romania. The Romanian players trained abroad, as I said, are assimilated to these players. Therefore, the 5 Romanian players must be throughout the game in at least 75% of the matches. Clubs that will not respect this rule will have to pay a sanction of 150,000 euros, ”said Burleanu.

He explained that the money will be divided equally by the first best ranked five teams that respect the rule.

“These amounts will be constituted in a fund dedicated exclusively to clubs that respect this rule. The money will be redistributed in equal payments at the end of the season to the best 5 clubs that have respected this rule. In addition, the use of the U21 will count. Thus, a U21 player, other than the obligatory one, will take the place of 2 players. with the use of 5 national players. Play with 6 players trained at national level, ”added FRF president.

The FRF website, states the operation in ROAF as follows: “Starting with season 2025/2026, during a game it is necessary to participate in the field at least five players formed at national level, eligible for the national teams of Romania. This rule applies for at least 75% of the matches related to a competitive season of the League 1 and the Romanian Cup U21 players will count on additional, so if U21 players are used, the rule will be considered for the respective game if 3 U21 players are used during the entire match Applicable for non -observance of the above mentioned rule will be financial penalty in the amount of 150,000 euros. The amounts thus obtained will be divided equally to the first 5 clubs, in the order of the final ranking of the respective competition season, which have respected the rule ”.
