Rosselkhoznadzor prevented the import of zucchini and fresh lettuce infected with a quarantine pest into the Krasnoyarsk Territory from China.
Phytosanitary control of the batch with a total weight of 1346 kg took place at the temporary storage warehouse of Agroterminal-Customs LLC. During the inspection of vegetables delivered by road, specialists noticed signs of infection.
“As a result of laboratory tests of the Krasnoyarsk branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “TsK Agroindustrial Complex”, the presence of a quarantine object – Western flower thrips – was confirmed in zucchini and fresh lettuce,” the Department reported.

Western flower thrips is an extremely dangerous insect, especially for ornamental crops. It affects not only leaves and stems, but also the soil. In Russia, the pest is included in the list of quarantine objects.
In order to prevent the threat of harm to agriculture and the economy of the region, the person who imported the contaminated products was given a notice of the need to take action.
As a result, a batch of zucchini and fresh lettuce was sent for disinfection.
