Corporate Communications Platform DION (part of the T1 IT holding) announced two innovations: implementation of the VP9 codec for video calls and the AV1 codec for screen sharing.

Desktop application DION switched to using the VP9 codec on the outgoing video stream from the camera. Thanks to this, it was possible to abandon the outdated codec V.P.8 and Simulcast technologies. Previously, because of this, the user’s device with the camera turned on was forced to send several copies of video streams at once, which created an excessive load on the application and the network.

To share the screen in the desktop application and web version the DION team moved on to sending the stream in the codec AV1. Compared to codec V.P.8 it significantly saves bitrate. TThe technology is already being actively tested by Western UC market leaders.
