Venezuelan opposition leader gives Trump her Nobel Peace Prize medal

After receiving the medal, Machado said, she told Trump a story about Latin American revolutionary Simon Bolivar.

A representative of the Venezuelan opposition noted that 200 years ago, French General Gilbert de Lafayette (a participant in the American War of Independence) gave Bolivar a medal with the image of the first US President George Washington.

As Machado emphasized, Bolivar kept this medal until the end of his life.

“After 200 years, the people of Bolívar give Washington's heir a medal – in this case the Nobel Peace Prize medal – in recognition of his unique commitment to our freedom,” the Venezuelan politician said.
