The City Hall of Sector 2 came at noon on Wednesday with the first explanations after several citizens complained that the local taxes on almost doubled buildings that appeared in the system on Monday and then increased on Tuesday.

According to the clarifications of the General Directorate of Taxes and Local Taxes Sector 2, posted on the Facebook page of the City Hall headed by Rareș Hopincă, the calculation of taxes and fees was done between January 1-6 and the amounts owed by taxpayers are established and “communicated by March 31 of each year.”

“The process of calculating local fees and taxes for the current year, in accordance with the provisions of the Decision of the General Council of the Municipality of Bucharest 514/23.12.2025, was carried out between January 1-6, 2026”, according to the message.

Citizens who wait until March 31 can no longer receive the 10% discount

The city hall says that, “within this process, there were some situations in which intermediate values were displayed on the Ghiseul.ro platform, these being corrected until the end of the calculation process (01.06.2026)”.

“According to the legal provisions, the amounts owed by taxpayers to the local budgets are established and brought to the taxpayers' attention through the taxation decisions, communicated by March 31 of each year”, the City Hall of Sector 2 also sent.

It should be noted that March 31 is also the date until which citizens can benefit from a 10% reduction in the tax on buildings, land and cars, the bonus being granted only if they pay before this deadline.

This is not what happens with the bonus, something also highlighted by a comment on the post of the City Hall. “Am I to deduce from this that I benefit from the 10% reduction within 3 months from the notification of the tax decision?”, someone commented.

The tax on buildings increased from day to day

The reaction came after several Bucharest residents from Sector 2 complained that the local taxes they have to pay to the City Hall increased from one day to the next.

Thus, after the tax on buildings became almost double this year compared to 2025, they noticed on Tuesday that it increased again compared to the value of Monday, in many cases by tens of lei.

They also complained on social networks, that in addition to the problems with the Ghișeul.ro platform, which cannot be accessed all the time, they found that the tax they had seen the other day that they had to pay suddenly became higher.

One of them also posted screenshots taken on the Ghiseul.ro platform, one on Monday afternoon and another on Tuesday morning. In these, it can be seen that the tax on buildings increased from 402 lei to 465 lei.

In addition to the tax difference, in many cases only a few tens of lei, some of them paid physically at the town hall offices that they had to pay since the first day – January 5, which means that they may have to go again and sit at the counters.

Monday, January 5, was the first day Romanians could pay their taxes at ANAF offices in the country. They are increased, both for the population and for companies.

The second package of fiscal measures adopted by the Bolojan Government, which provides for the increase in taxes, entered into force on January 1, 2026. For example, Romanians will pay up to 3 times higher taxes for housing or land.
