President Karol Nawrocki appointed Marcin Zarzecki to the Monetary Policy Council as of December 22, 2025 – the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland announced on Monday. Zarzecki was the president of the Polish National Foundation from 2019 to 2024, and from 2024 the deputy director of the Institute of National Remembrance.


“The President of the Republic of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, by the decision of December 15, 2025, appointed Marcin Zarzecki to the Monetary Policy Council as of December 22, 2025. The act of appointment was handed over during a ceremony held in the Presidential Palace,” it was reported on the website of the president's office.
It was added that Zarzecki is a sociologist, statistician, econometrician, social science methodologist, evaluator, and academic teacher. He served as deputy director of the Institute of Sociology at Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw, and in 2016–2019 he was vice-dean of the Faculty of Historical and Social Sciences of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University.
In the years 2016–2018 he was the president of the Polish Evaluation Society, and in the 2016–2023 term he was a member of the Council of the Western Institute. Zygmunt Wojciechowski in Poznań. He was an advisor in the consulting team for social research at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. He also served as deputy director of the Intellectual Property and Media Department of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
According to the president's office, Zarzecki was the president of the Polish National Foundation in 2019–2024. He is also a graduate of programs and courses in econometrics, statistical data analysis, artificial intelligence and finance.

Head of the Department of Social Research Methodology and Statistics at the Faculty of Social and Economics of the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw,” it added.
On December 20 this year, the six-year term of office of Cezary Kochalski as a member of the Monetary Policy Council, who was appointed in December 2019 by President Andrzej Duda, expired.
The Council, in addition to the chairman – the President of the National Bank of Poland, includes nine members appointed in equal numbers by the President of the Republic of Poland, the Sejm and the Senate. The term of office of a Council member is 6 years. The function can only be held for one term.
Monetary Policy Council, among others determines: the level of NBP interest rates, the annual assumptions of monetary policy, the required reserve rate of banks and cooperative savings and credit unions and the amount of its interest. It also determines the upper limits of liabilities arising from NBP taking out loans and credits from foreign banking and financial institutions, approves the NBP financial plan and the report on the NBP's activities, and establishes the principles of open market operations.
