A wedding party held over the weekend in western Germany degenerated into a general brawl, as a result of which several people were injured, including the bride, German police announced on Monday, according to the DPA news agency.

A dispute that broke out during a wedding game escalated and turned into a physical altercation in which many guests were involved, reports DPA, quoted by Yahoo News.

A 39-year-old man, as well as the bride, were eventually transported to the hospital.

Police were initially told that around 30 people were involved in the altercation, prompting authorities in the town of Hemer, south-east of Dortmund, to respond to the incident on Saturday evening with a large deployment of law enforcement.

By the time police arrived, the fight had ended, but tensions were still high, a police spokesman said.

Witnesses told police that the altercation began during a wedding game known as “tie toss,” an equivalent of the more well-known custom of throwing the bride's bouquet.

In the game, the groom's tie is thrown into the crowd to symbolically designate the next groom.

German police are currently investigating four men, aged 19, 28, 39 and 47, on suspicion of assault, with the suspects accusing each other of bodily harm.
