Minister Alexandru Rogobete declared on Saturday that at the moment the situation at the “Sfânta Maria” Children's Hospital, where a dangerous bacteria was detected in several water samples, is not critical.
The bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Piocyanic), which can lead to infections in the blood, lungs or other parts of the body, has been identified in several water samples from the hospital. In the night from Friday to Saturday, the Minister of Health announced that admissions have been stopped and that only emergencies will be taken over, but that there is no question of transferring patients to other health units.
Alexandru Rogobete spoke about the situation in the hospital, on Saturday, in a press conference in Târgu Mureș, according to Agerpres.
“Most likely on Tuesday we will know for sure whether the Pseudomonas biofilm in the facility has been eliminated or not, and if it has been eliminated, the medical activity will function in optimal conditions. If it has not been eliminated, then we will resume this procedure and operate with the hospital on epidemiological alert. But it is not currently a critical situation in that health unit,” said the official.
Hospitals “ready to receive patients” if necessary
The Minister of Health said that, if necessary, patients from the hospital in Iași will be able to be transferred to other health facilities.
“We have two emergency hospitals in Bucharest, namely the County Hospital in Suceava, which are ready to receive patients, in the event that a transfer of patients is required or in the event that patients present in the emergency unit with major emergencies that cannot be treated in the health unit”, said Alexandru Rogobete.
He specified that he “ordered the Directorate of Public Health to check, to collect microbiological samples, both on the surfaces and on the skins of patients and medical personnel from several points in the health facility”.
“These results will be available tomorrow and, of course, depending on the microbiological results and depending on the evolution, we will make informed decisions. I wanted, I insisted that he arrive at the hospital last night because, following the unpleasant events on the way that we had with this hospital in August, I wanted to coordinate this situation at the local level”, declared the Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete.
