Nicolae Iulian Albăceanu, the head of the Braila Gendarmerie, was placed under judicial control for 60 days and is being prosecuted for controlling commercial, fast-food and real estate business, incompatible with the position, DNA prosecutors said on Friday.

The chief inspector of the Braila County Gendarmes Inspectorate is being prosecuted for “carrying out financial operations, as trade documents, incompatible with the function, attribution or task that a person fulfills or the conclusion of financial transactions, using the information obtained by virtue of his position, attribution or assignment”.

Albaceanu is accused that, between 2021-2025, in addition to the state work, he controlled several businesses such as fast food, real estate and fuel trade. Its most important business is related to the placement of the labor in Nepal, Sri Lanka and other Asian states. From the commercial affairs, the chief of the Braila Gendarmerie made a net profit of 569,680 lei, between 2021 – 2024.

DNA also says that he purchased a small plane, which intended to develop a business for travel and business travelers.

During the period of judicial control, Albăceanu is forbidden to travel outside Brăila county without the agreement of the DNA military prosecutors, to communicate with the persons mentioned in the ordinance of the judicial control and to exercise the profession of gendarmerie.

DNA prosecutors did the searches in this criminal case on Thursday, where they found 50,000 euros.

According to his CV, Nicolae Iulian Albăceanu was appointed chief inspector in October 2021, previously holding several important functions, including chief of procurement service within the Romanian Gendarmerie, but also Deputy Director of the Constanta Coast Guard.
