In the club of the most appreciated applications of AI – next to Chatgpt, Gemini and Claude – a name appears more and more often: Perplexity AI. The head of the company said that the number of “query” received from users increases on average by 20% from month to month, and in May there were 780 million.

Perplexity is a reference name among AI applications. Its main product is an “Augment search engine”, also called “Answer Engine). Instead of providing a list of links, the response engine uses artificial intelligence -based language models to analyze the questions formulated in natural language and to provide personalized, enriched links to the sources used. In the mobile application, the chatbot can also respond in Romanian. On the Google app store, the rating is 4.9 out of 5 and there are over 700,000 reviews.

Perplexity registered 780 million “query” in May, said the CEO by Aravas Srinivas. He said that the search engine based on artificial intelligence has an increase of over 20% from month to month of the volume of requests received from users, writes Techcrunch.

“Give us a year and we will reach one billion query per week, if we can maintain the growth rate now,” said Srinivas, specifying that there are 30 million searches per day.

The next step for the company is the development of a “browser AI”, called comet that is described by the company's heads as a “cognitive operating system).

The chief of the company explained that the reason why Perplexity develops Comet is to change the role of AI, from one to provide answers, to performing actions instead of the user.

He explained that a response generated by AI equals four or five integrated searches in one. Instead, if the AI performs an action, that means it completes an entire browsing session in response to a single command.

Perplexity has set up in 2022, and the search engine was launched at the end of that year. The company is based in San Francisco, and at the end of 2024 it was evaluated at $ 9 billion. Now, after a new round of financing ($ 500 million), the value rose to $ 14 billion (although the initial target was $ 18 billion.
