Why can't Adrian Veștea be immediately excluded from the PNL. A provision in the statute complicates the decision
The liberals meet on Sunday evening to discuss the sanctioning of Adrian Veștea, after he accepted to be appointed prime minister without consulting the party. Some leaders, including the MEP, Gheorghe Falcă, demand the exclusion of Veștea from the party, but this cannot be done on the spot. In addition, some of the PNL leaders announced their support for the Veștea solution.
The National Political Bureau of the party is to meet on Sunday evening, but it cannot decide to exclude Veştea, it only proposes this. The decision-making forum that will decide in the case of the first vice-president, which is a position elected at the PNL Congress, is the PNL National Council.
Only the National Council can decide
According to the PNL Statute, the National Council dismisses, by secret ballot, any member of the BEx, elected in Congress, upon the proposal of the president of the party, of the BEx or upon the proposal of at least 1/4 of the presidents of the County Political Bureaus, with the consent of the respective BPJ.
The PNL statute clearly stipulates that all candidacies for positions in the Government and authorities of the central public administration are approved by the BPN at the BEx proposal, something that did not happen in the case of Veștea.
However, what the PNL BPN can decide is the convening of a National Council for the coming days to question the exclusion of Veștea from the party.
According to art. 30 of the statute,
“The sanctioning of members who hold positions at the national level – with the exception of those elected at the PNL Congress (CON) – inside or outside the party, elected or appointed, is decided by the NC vote on the BEx proposal and is communicated to the person in question, in writing, within 5 days at the most. 2. The court of appeal is the CA, which, notified within 10 days from the receipt of the decision, is obliged to pronounce and communicate to the person in question case, in writing or by e-mail, to the address stated in the application for membership, the adopted solution, within 30 days of receiving the notification. The CA solution is final.”
The news has the support of some of the leaders of the formation
A few hours after the announcement made by President Nicușor Dan regarding the nomination of Veștea, some of the PNL leaders support Veștea. The mayor of Brașov, Gheorghe Scripcaru, the president of the CJ Cluj, Alin Tișe, several former ministers and parliamentarians support Veștea.
