— If we continue this process now as planned, talks with the American government will take place this weekend, Merz said in Berlin during a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
On Wednesday, French President Emmanuel Macron said he spoke by phone with US leader Donald Trump about Ukraine. The heads of government of Great Britain and Germany: Keir Starmer and Friedrich Merz also participated in the conversation, the British Prime Minister's office said.
Macron reported that the conversation with European leaders lasted 40 minutes and that its aim was to try to achieve further progress on Ukraine.

The Elysee Palace said the leaders “discussed the development of the mediation initiated by the United States and welcomed US efforts to achieve lasting peace in Ukraine.”

Earlier on Wednesday, the French authorities announced that the next meeting of the coalition of the willing, i.e. countries supporting Ukraine in its defensive war with Russia, will be held via videoconference on Thursday. The meeting will be co-chaired by France and the United Kingdom.
