New regulations from December. Probation period and zero alcohol limit

Currently, in Poland, driving under the influence means exceeding 0.5 per mille of alcohol in the blood. The new regulations do not, in principle, change this provision, although they add one important aspect. People starting their driving adventure will be subject to a trial period, during which it will be strictly forbidden to drink alcohol before driving.

As Moto.pl explains, the trial period will last two years for people who obtain a category B driving license after turning 18. For those who decide to obtain qualifications at the age of 17, this period will be extended to three years, although it will not last longer than until the age of 20.

The mentioned trial period also has another aspect. If a young driver earns 12 penalty points, he or she will be obliged to undergo training on road traffic hazards.
Revolution on the roads. Zero alcohol limit for some drivers
The amendment to the law, which was published in the Journal of Laws on December 2, 2025, introduces the most restrictions for the youngest drivers.
In addition to the above-mentioned restrictions, for the first six months after obtaining a driving license or until they turn 18, 17-year-olds will only be able to drive a car in the presence of an experienced driver.

As Moto.pl explains, these are people who are at least 25 years old, have held a category B driving license for at least five years, have not been subject to a driving ban in the last five years and are sober. Additionally, until they reach the age of majority, they will not be allowed to transport underage passengers without such a person being present.
Changes, changes, changes. Drivers, get ready for a lot of new things in road traffic law
As Moto.pl notes, the entry into force of the new regulations has been postponed. Some changes will take effect the day after announcement, others 14 days, three, six or even nine months after publication.
From December 3, 2025, electric cars and ambulances, even without signals on, will be able to use bus lanes. This privilege will be valid until December 31, 2027.

In a further stage – more specifically, from March 2, 2026 – the police will gain the power to suspend a driving license for three months for exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 km/h. on a two-way single carriageway road outside the built-up area. At the same time, it will be possible for 17-year-olds to obtain a driving license and a trial period for young drivers will be introduced.
Many drivers may be interested in the change that will enter into force on June 2, 2026. From that moment on, it will no longer be possible to reduce penalty points for certain offenses.
