Photos appeared in the American media showing that the president's name and surname appeared on the institute's headquarters.

The US Institute of Peace was once a bloated, useless institution that spent $50 million a year without contributing to peace – Anna Kelly, White House spokeswoman, told Axios.

“Now the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace, beautifully and aptly named for the president who ended eight wars in less than a year, will be a powerful reminder of what strong leadership can achieve for global stability,” the spokeswoman added.

In February, the president ordered the closure of the organization, which was founded by Congress in the 1980s and which presents itself as non-partisan and independent. In March, representatives of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), then led by Elon Musk, appeared at the center. In May, the court ruled that the administration's actions to disband the Institute were illegal. However, the appellate court suspended the implementation of this decision, which led to the dismissal of the employees.

The Washington Post reported that on Thursday, in the Institute's building, in the presence of Trump, the presidents of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, Felix Tshisekedi and Paul Kagame, will sign a peace agreement on regional economic integration, which is expected to bring billions of dollars in investments from the US, including in the extraction of rare earth metals.

A person familiar with the administration's decision to change the building's name said it had been in the works for some time. The name change is intended to recognize Trump's achievements as a “world peacemaker,” another source told the newspaper.
