Explosion and fire aboard an oil tanker in the Black Sea, possibly due to a mine

An explosion followed by a fire occurred on Friday in the engine room of an oil tanker in the Black Sea, north of the Bosphorus, according to the Tribeca Maritime Agency, quoted by Reuters.

The oil tanker Kairos, under the flag of Gambia and sailing without cargo, was approximately 84 km north of the Bosphorus at the time of the incident. According to reports received, the ship may have struck a mine and is at risk of sinking.

Rescue tugs and coast guard teams were sent to the scene to intervene in an emergency. The authorities stated that maritime traffic through the Bosphorus Strait continued without restrictions.
