A press release from the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZG) states that the customs officers at the border crossing point St. Margrethen stopped a vehicle with French license plates that was leaving the country, according to the publication 20 Minuten.
The driver and the passenger, both Romanian citizens, were subjected to a customs control.
During the search, officers found various jewelry, watches and a Vreneli gold coin in the engine compartment and inside the vehicle.
Some of the jewels were hidden in a loaf of bread.
Initial investigations revealed a connection to a robbery in Canton Zurich.
The police officers of the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BAZG) handed over the two Romanians to the St. Gallen, who referred the case to the Zurich Cantonal Police for further investigation.
It remains to be determined whether the two men were directly involved in the robbery or were intermediaries.
We remind you that in August of this year, two Romanians were arrested by the Swiss authorities after they broke into a village evacuated due to the danger of landslides and looted several houses.
