Visegrad Group like a phoenix from the ashes? Babisz to Nawrocki: I will renew cooperation

Andrej Babisz, who was entrusted with the mission of forming a new Czech government, told President Karol Nawrocki on Monday that when he becomes prime minister, he will renew cooperation in the Visegrad Group, which, alongside Poland and the Czech Republic, consists of Hungary and Slovakia.

After the meeting, Babisz, the leader of the victorious ANO party in the recent parliamentary elections, said that he had talked to the Polish president, among others. on the next meeting of the European Council. According to the Czech politician, the Council will deal with relations with Ukraine, the new budget and energy.

Babisz and Nawrocki agreed that the Visegrad Group (V4) had performed well in the past when it operated at the level of prime ministers. If Babisz becomes head of government again, he wants to strive to renew cooperation on issues on which there is agreement. – If some V4 countries have a different opinion on the conflict in Ukraine, it does not mean that we cannot jointly address the issue of ETS2, illegal migration, return to ETS1, and, above all, energy issues and other problems plaguing Europe, the ANO leader told journalists.

Karol Nawrocki stated at a press conference after the meeting with Czech President Petr Pavel that, in his opinion, the V4 expects a pragmatic model of cooperation. According to him, countries can cooperate, for example, on climate and migration issues.

Babisz, whose populist ANO movement won the parliamentary elections in early October, plans to form a government with radical and anti-EU groups. At the end of October, President Petr Pavel entrusted the ANO leader with the mission of forming a government, but did not appoint him prime minister. He assures that he will do it when Babisz, who owns 100 percent. shares of one of the largest Czech food and chemical holdings, will publicly present how he wants to resolve the conflict of interests that threatens him when he becomes prime minister.
