Bogdan Benczak, the new president of PZU. Who is he?


The PZU Supervisory Board adopted a resolution on the appointment of Bogdan Benczak to the board, entrusting him with the function of the president provided that the Polish Financial Supervision Authority was consent – the company said.
At the beginning of August, a staffing earthquake occurred in the largest Polish insurer. Andrzej Klesyk was dismissed from the function of the president. It was the second change of the head of PZU during the rule of the current coalition.
Such a quick appeal of Andrzej Klesyk, who was elected president in February 2025, was a big surprise. The more that he was next to Cezary Stypułkowski (president of Bank Pekao) the originator of a great transaction regarding the common future of PZU and Pekao.
The new president was to select the competition, and his results were to be known at the beginning of September. The competition proceedings, however, stretched. On Wednesday, September 24, a meeting of the PZU supervisory board was convened, which selected a new boss. It was Bogdan Benczak.
There were several types on the Stock Exchange. “Rzeczpospolita” exchanged five candidates on Wednesday morning: Maciej Szwarc (member of the Supervisory Board of PZU), Katarzyna Majewska (head of PZU Życie), Bogdan Benczak (managing director in PZU), Andrzej Jarczyk (President of TUW PZUW) and Sławomir Bilik (on the board of PZU Życie).

PZU is in a fairly specific period, because at the end of the calendar year the current term of office of the company's management board will come. So it may turn out that the new boss will manage the work of the board for several months.
Bogdan Benczak, the new president of PZU – who is he?
Bogdan Benczak is a legal advisor, a graduate of the Faculty of Law at the University of Warsaw, postgraduate studies at the Academy of Economics in Krakow and MBA managerial studies at the University of Gdańsk.
From February 2025, he was employed in PZU as a managing director for corporate affairs and foreign companies. Earlier, in July 2023-August 2024 he was the general director at ADB Gjensidige Lietuva, in 2018-2022 he was a member of the board, as well as the president of Ergo Insurance SE / Ergo Life Insurance SE.
In the years 2015-2017 he was on the board of AB Lietuvos Draudimas, in the period 2014-2017 he was the president of Aas Balta, and was also the managing director for foreign operations in PZU. His CV is supplemented by the presidency in 2009-2017 at UAB PZU Lietuva Gyvybes Draudimas and in the period 2010–2014 at UAB PZU Lietuva.
Bogdan Benczak in the years 2008-2014 was also the director of the PZU Business Office/ Business Development Office, and in the years 2008-2015 the president of the PZU Foundation.
He has many years of experience in supervisory authorities gained in the supervisory boards of companies.
