In his opinion, the date of Ukraine's accession to the EU is not a priority.
“The key issue is ending the war and preserving the Ukrainian state, and accession is a bureaucratic process that must move forward,” the politician emphasized.
Yatsenyuk added that the bureaucratic process must be ensured flawlessly by the Cabinet of Ministers, but “the key task is to preserve the Ukrainian state so that there is someone to join the European Union.”
“I looked at the report of the European Commission and, I say seriously, I want to congratulate us on the fact that in a state of war the country received very positive assessments. Whether there are gaps, there are, but we can work with them,” the ex-prime minister believes.
When asked how to minimize losses from joining the EU, Yatsenyuk replied: “This is a negotiation process. You cannot get everything without giving up anything. It is we who ask to join this club, not us, and it has its own rules. The task of the negotiators is to ensure that there are more pluses than minuses. You cannot remove all the minuses, then you will never complete the negotiation process.”
According to the politician, this will be “a very difficult process” for Ukraine, because “it’s about money, about competitiveness, about market share, about subsidies, about subsidies.”
“That is, this is an extremely difficult job. And here we will need… Poles with their experience in order to properly negotiate,” Yatsenyuk concluded.
