King Harald V of Norway treated with a lot of humor the controversy surrounding a documentary produced by Netflix about his daughter, Princess Martha Louise, and her husband, the self-titled shaman Durek Verrett, informs DPA on Friday, taken over by Agerpres.
“I noticed a certain amount of attention paid to a film this year,” the 88-year-old monarch said at a gala dinner for members of the Norwegian Parliament at the Royal Palace in Oslo.
“A sequel has been considered, and the best idea so far for a title is 'The King Minute by Minute,'” King Harald V joked to Norwegian lawmakers, who began to smile.
The sovereign said that he could not promise that such a sequel would be a “rebel” one, referring to the title of the documentary about Princess Martha Louise, “Rebel Royals”, and then added, this time causing laughter among the 200 guests: “But I still think that it could interest a lot of people, because it could also have a soporific effect.”
King Harald V is famous in Norway for his acid humor as well as his appropriate words when dealing with serious topics. Martha Louise is his only daughter and, at the same time, the older sister of Crown Prince Haakon, the heir to the throne.
In the summer of 2024, Princess Martha Louise married Durek Verrett, an American citizen, in a ceremony held in the picturesque scenery of the Geiranger Fjord. Then, in September 2024, Netflix released the documentary “Rebel Royals: An Unlikely Love Story”. The documentary followed the journey up to the marriage and, like many other things related to the princess and her shaman husband, sparked many discussions in Norway.
Among other things, the bride and groom were criticized for selling the exclusive image and filming rights for the wedding ceremony and related party to foreign media.
The Norwegian royal family accused the couple of continuing to use Martha Louise's princess title and her connections to the royal court in Oslo for commercial purposes, in violation of an agreement that prohibits this.
